The Board Members of The International Dyslexia Association-Florida Branch (IDA-FL) join me in warmly welcoming you to our website.  We look forward to seeing you at our annual conference, “Dyslexia: Dispelling Myths and Supplying Solutions” on October 6, 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Florida Hotel and Conference Center, in the Florida Mall, in Orlando, FL.  Our two keynote speakers, David A. Kilpatrick, Ph.D. and Nancy Mather, Ph.D., are leaders in their fields of study focused on dyslexia and literacy.  Additionally, State Representative Gayle Harrell will provide an update on her efforts to improve legislation related to dyslexia.

For students with dyslexia in Florida, this has been a landmark year.  A professional development law was passed and awareness of dyslexia is now mandatory for every educator in our state.  The work has already begun.  IDA-FL joined the FLDOE this summer for its first annual Summer Literacy Conference.  District leaders in reading heard Hugh Catts, Ph.D. and Eric Tridas, M.D. talk about identifying dyslexia.  All attendees were scheduled to attend the IDA-FL facilitated Experience Dyslexia®, a dyslexia simulation.  We were assisted by UCF graduate students in reading, and the event was filled with networking and discussion. We look forward to working together again next summer.

The IDA-FL Board is a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers who believes in its mission: The International Dyslexia Association – Florida Branch (IDA-FL) strives to be a leader in educating and empowering the people of Florida with knowledge of dyslexia, appropriate assessment for dyslexia, and effective, evidence-based interventions.  We are very grateful to our friends, sponsors, and exhibitors who have joined IDA-FL’s mission through their generous donations and contributions.

Thank you for being educational missionaries, taking the information shared on this website and during our conference back to your schools and workplaces to inform and reform, so that you might help dispel the myths surrounding dyslexia and provide some solutions for students with dyslexia.  We look forward to seeing you at our conference on October 6, 2018.  Register online before September 28, 2018 or at the door on October 6, 2018.

Finally, remember to watch our website for information about our state conference next year.

Until everyone can read!
